Billing, trial & Pro

Statecraft has two paid tiers — a 30-day trial and a Pro subscription.

Plans

  • Trial — 30 days from account creation. No card on file. No feature limits: every project, every design system, every collaborator is available during the trial.
  • Pro — paid subscription, unlocks the workspace indefinitely. Monthly or annual billing, taxes and invoices handled by Polar. Cancel anytime.
  • Free — if your Pro membership expires or your trial ends your projects become read-only. All your work is saved, but no new edits are accepted.

What "read-only" means

When a workspace is not on Pro and its trial has ended, any change you make won't be saved:

  • Creating, renaming, or deleting projects
  • Editing state JSX, adding or removing transitions
  • Authoring, editing, or deleting design systems
  • Taking or restoring snapshots
  • Leaving new comments or replying to existing threads
  • Inviting new members or changing roles

Reading continues to work. Owners, editors, and viewers can open projects, browse snapshots, and read existing comments. Owners can also manage billing in this state; leaving the workspace, transferring ownership, and accepting pending invites also continue to work.

Transferring workspaces

If your Pro membership expires or your trial ends you can keep your workspaces editable by tranferring them to someone with a Pro membership. This means:

  • A team of ten editors is unlocked by a single paying owner.
  • Transferring ownership to a Pro co-owner unlocks a previously expired workspace immediately.
  • An owner going off Pro locks the workspace only if no other owner is paying.

Upgrading to Pro

Upgrading is initiated from Account → Billing. Clicking Subscribe opens a Polar-hosted checkout flow; Polar handles card entry, VAT collection, invoicing, and you'll be redirected back to Statecraft once it's complete.

Payment typically completes in a few seconds. The workspace's status updates as soon as the checkout process is complete.

Managing an existing subscription

The billing page links to Polar's hosted customer portal. The portal covers:

  • Updating the payment method
  • Viewing invoices and receipts
  • Cancelling the subscription (scheduled for the end of the period)
  • Resuming a cancellation before it takes effect

A scheduled cancellation does not cut off access mid-period. The subscription stays active until the end of the billing period.

Viewing plan status

The billing page shows the active plan, the next billing date (for Pro), the trial end date (during trial), and the current state of the workspace. A banner at the top of the editor surfaces the same information so it is visible without navigating to billing.
